Lund's Viking Age city centre is small and cozy with short walking distances, so you experience Lund best on foot. It only takes about 15-20 minutes to stroll across the city centre. The number of parking spaces in the city centre is limited, so the general advice is to avoid driving in central Lund. There are also no parking spaces for large motorhomes in the city centre. It would be impossible to produce brochures for as many visitors guides as there are. By being designed as mobile-friendly websites, the visitor guides are easily accessible to use.

Lund's non-profit tourist information Destination Lund has no financial resources and therefore does not have the opportunity to send any map or other information by mail. Although, there are many places in Lund where you can pick up Lund municipality's map on paper as soon as you arrive in Lund.
Let Lund Greeters show you Lund
Lund Greeters is one of the Swedish destinations within the International Greeter Association. Locals, called greeters, show and tell about their cities to small groups of no more than six visitors completely free of charge, it is not even allowed to tip. You get a much more interesting visit to Lund with Lund Greeters. They have solid knowledge of the city, Lund's history, the university, and they can show and tell about things that are not visible in the cityscape, and therefore, not easily find by yourself.

Is a greeter the same as a guide?
Greeters are not professional guides, but locals who show and tell about their city as you would for family and friends who come to visit. What is shown and told is always based on what the visitors are interested in and how long time they have. A greet, therefore, does not follow a predetermined route, and last anywhere from one to several hours, but usually for 2-3 hours.
Do greeters have any education about Lund and Lund's history?
There is no formal education for greeters, but all Lund Greeters have lived in Lund for a long time, and they have solid knowledge of Lund, Lund's history and the university, even more than most of the professional guides who mainly have knowledge of what they usually guide about.
Is there another word for greeter in other languages?
Greeters is a unique service where locals show and tell about their city completely free of charge so visitors can experience interesting places they cannot easily find themselves. It is called greeters at all destinations all over the world within the International Greeter Association, regardless of country and what language they speak. Therefore, it is not possible to translate or change with another word.

Are there any open guided tours in Lund?
We hope that some guides will start offering open guided tours in Lund when tourism to Lund has increased enough, but so far guided tours can only be booked by larger groups in advance. Smaller groups of up to 6 people can book a greet with Lund Greeters, which is completely free. As a visitor, you can get more out of a greet than joining a guided tour because you can choose what you want the greeter to show and talk about. A greet is designed individually according to the visitors' wishes, lasts as long as the visitors want, and gives the opportunity to ask more questions than if you are part of a larger group.

How to pay in Lund and Sweden
Sweden is one of the world's most cashless countries. Most people use contactless payments by
card, and often they use their mobile phone through a payment app such as Samsung Pay or Apple
Pay. Shops and restaurants do not have to accept cash, and many therefore only accept payment
by card. Generally, it is safe to use card payments in Sweden, so the recommendation is that
you do so if possible.
For people who do not have the opportunity to pay by card or prefer paying with cash, we have gathered information on a page showing where to find ATMs in the centre of Lund.
Luggage storage
If you need to store luggage during your visit to Lund, there are boxes from Speed Box in the old station building at Lund Railway Station. You scan a QR-code or pay with a credit or debit card to rent a box. There are luggage boxes in three sizes.
- Small box: 50.5 cm wide, 28 cm high, 60.2 cm deep costs SEK 19 per hour, maximum SEK 149 per day (March 2026).
- Medium box: 50.5 cm wide, 43 cm high, 60.2 cm deep costs SEK 39 per hour, maximum SEK 199 per day (March 2026).
- Large box: 55 cm wide, 34 cm high, 83.7 cm deep costs SEK 49 per hour, maximum SEK 299 per day (March 2026).

Public toilets in Lund
When visiting a city, it can feel safe to know where to find a toilet and when it is open. We have gathered information about public toilets in the centre of Lund where you can find one when you need it. A few of them are paid toilets where you have to pay contactless by card.

Local weather information
As a visitor, it can be difficult to know where to find local weather information, especially for visitors from other countries. So that's why we inform you about it here. On the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute's (SMHI) website you will find both the current weather forecast for Lund and a radar image map showing if there is any rain near Lund right now.
Taxi
You will find the taxi station on the west side of the railway station, at the west side of the main building. If you are travelling from the Malmö Sturup domestic airport, you need to take a taxi to and from Lund, there is no airport shuttle anymore. Many taxi companies offer set prices to the airports, but you must be aware that taxis practice free pricing in Sweden. So just in case ask for the price beforehand. You can always prebook a taxi by phone or using the different companies’ apps.

To rent a bike in Lund
Lund is a biking city, not least due to all the students and the short distances in the city. If you want to explore Lund and the environment, biking is a nice way. Some hotels provide bikes that the guests can borrow. Otherwise you can rent the public bikes administrated by Lundahoj, or rent a bike at Fridhems bicycle shop.
Train and local buses
Lund railway station Lund railway station is the third busiest in Sweden after Stockholm and Gothenburg. In the ticket machines at the station, you can buy tickets to both long-distance trains as well as local trains and buses. But it is easier to buy tickets in a mobile app and pay with your credit card. The local company Skånetrafiken has an app where you can buy tickets to the local trains and
buses and pay with a credit card. It is easy to use, and if the mobile phone operates in
another language than Swedish, it automatically shows the information in English. In this app
you also can buy tickets to travel with the Öresund-trains back and forth to Copenhagen airport.

The app can be used with any telephone number, regardless of which country it is registered in, according to information from Skånetrafiken. The telephone number must be registered correctly with country code, and you receive an SMS with a code to use when registering in the app. The payment cards accepted are Visa, Visa Elektron, Mastercard and Maestro, regardless of which country the card is released in.
A 24-hour ticket is often a good choice
In the app, you can buy a ticket valid for 24 hours. This is often a good choice; it is the same price as two single tickets. With such a ticket, you can jump on and off as much as you like during the valid period and within the ticket zone. You find a map showing the different zones in the app. When you buy a ticket, you choose a suitable zone for your ride that day.
Travel to and from Denmark
If you buy a ticket in Skånetrafiken's app to travel between Lund and Denmark, you can use the ticket for continuing travel on public transport in Denmark within the zone and time that the ticket is valid. You do not need to buy another ticket to travel by bus to or from Copenhagen's railway station København H, just open the active ticket in Skånetrafiken's app and show it. This makes it very easy for you as a tourist or visitor to Copenhagen to make a day trip to Lund as well. Stay cheaper in Lund if you plan to visit Copenhagen
If you plan to visit Copenhagen, it is smart to stay in Lund instead. In just 50 minutes you can travel by train from Lund to Copenhagen without changing train. The currency difference alone means that you save over 30 percent on food and accommodation, but since the prices are so much higher in Copenhagen than in Lund, you save even more. Since Lund is one of the largest university cities in the Nordic region, there are many different types of restaurants, many of which are of high class. Lund's more than a thousand-year-old Viking Age city centre is small and cosy, so there are many hotels within a short walking distance of the railway station.
If you want to visit Copenhagen, it is much cheaper to stay and eat in Lund instead.
Arriving by air
There are two airports nearby Lund. Copenhagen airport (Kastrup, located just outside Copenhagen, Denmark) is the largest international airport in the Nordic countries. Malmö Airport is the regional domestic and charter airport.
Malmö Airport
Malmö Airport is located south-east from Lund. There are no trains or buses from Lund to the airport, the airport coaches are only operating from Malmö, so the easiest way to get there is to take a taxi, which takes approximately 35 minutes, or drive on your own. Please be aware that the taxi business is not regulated in Sweden. You are better to prebook, or at least ask for the price beforehand. When arriving to Malmö Airport, we recommend that you prebook a taxi, otherwise you sometimes must wait if there are not enough taxis available. Right now (July 2026) a taxi ride from Malmö Airport to Lund is just below 600 SEK. More information can be found at the Malmö Airport web site.
Copenhagen Airport
Copenhagen airport is the largest international airport in the Nordic countries. The easiest way to go from Lund is by Öresund-train, which takes about 35 minutes, or a taxi which takes about 30 minutes. Occasionally, the trains do not operate properly, and there are problems getting across the Bridge, so we recommend that you take a train from Lund about three hours before the check-in closes, just to be sure. You can buy the tickets in the local company´s app, see information above. Search in the app for departure from "Lund" to "CPH Airport Kastrup" or the other way around.

It is quite expensive to take a taxi across the Bridge between Denmark and Sweden due to fairly high fees. At the moment (July 2026) taxi ride will cost about 1 400 SEK. Please be aware that the taxis business is not regulated in Sweden. You are better to prebook, or at least ask for the price beforehand. Always choose a Swedish taxi company when going to Sweden, it is much more expensive taking a Danish taxi across the Bridge.

Arriving by car
If possible, it is better to go by train than to drive to Lund. The city centre is old with narrow streets, not easy to drive in, and has a limited number of parking lots.
Parking in Lund
Parking in the city centre costs about 20-30 SEK per hour (March 2025), and about SEK 10-15 per hour if you park at about 10 minutes walking distance from the centre. It is no longer possible to pay with cash or card when parking in Lund. Instead, you have to use a parking app in all parking spaces nowadays.

In some parking spaces, there are different parking zones close to each other. Therefore,
you need to be careful that you enter the correct area zone number.
We recommend using the parking app Parkster when parking in Lund as there are no other fees
added in their app if you create an account. Their headquarters are in Lund, but you can use
their app all over Sweden, as well as in Germany and Austria. In the app, you will find most
of the parking spaces in Lund and up-to-date information about the costs. It is a good idea to
download the app in advance so you can familiarize yourself with it. Here you can download
Parkster's app for Android or
iPhone.
Mind the parking zone
You must select the correct parking zone/number in the parking app. If you choose the wrong parking zone, you may be fined even if you have paid, and it is your responsibility to choose the right parking zone. In several places, there are different parking zones if you park along the street or inside a parking lot on that street. Usually there is a sign that indicates which parking zone applies to which parking space.

Long-term parking in Lund
The parking company APCOA offers a period ticket for seven days for the parking space on the north side of Lund railway station (information in Swedish). In the parking machine, you can only pay for one week, but in APCOA's app you can buy a periodic ticket that automatically extended by one week at a time. You can buy a periodic ticket for 30 days at their parking lot "Posthornet 1", located a bit further out on the northwest side of Lund railway station.
Lund municipal parking company, LKP, offers monthly tickets (information in English available)) for parking at several places in the city, including the underground parking garage on the west side of Lund railway station, with direct connection to the railway station.

Parking for caravans and mobile homes
You can park a car with caravan in a normal parking space as long as they fit in one slot each, and you pay for two spaces, one for each registration number.

However, there are no parking spaces for mobile homes in the city centre if they do not fit
into a single slot. Then you have to park in one of the parking spaces specially designed
for mobile homes at other places around the city centre. From them, you can take a bus or
cycle into the city centre. It is not a campsite, so there is no water, electricity, or
toilets, but you are allowed to spend a night at those places where you can stay for 24 hours.
- At Ulrikedalsvägen , there is a parking space for mobile homes for a maximum of 24 hours. This parking is closest to the city centre, and you find the bus stop at Lund Studentlyckan.
- At Slåttervägen , there is space for two mobile homes for a maximum of 24 hours. The bus stop is located at Lund Bondevägen.
- At Ällingavägens parkeringsplats , there is space for two mobile homes for a maximum of 4 hours. The bus stop is located at Lund Måsens vårdcentral (Lund Måsen's health centre).
- At Tage Erlanders väg , there is a parking space for several mobile homes for a maximum of 24 hours. The bus stop is located at Lund Ernst Wigforss gata.

Parking place for tourist buses
Tourist buses are allowed to stop for five minutes at Kyrkogatan outside the Cathedral to let passengers off and on.
Outside the parking garage Arena Park , south of the city centre, there is a parking lot which has room for three buses. There is also a parking lot for two buses, for a maximum of three hours, at the north side of King Oscar's Road .

Hotels and accommodations in Lund
There are many small, cozy hotels in Lund, but the largest hotels are conference hotels that are further away from the city centre. If you are staying with them, you need to go by city bus or cycle to visit the centre of Lund. There are also some simpler accommodations in Lund, such as bed and breakfast and hostels. If you have questions about accommodation in Lund, you can contact us and we can give suggestions. Hotel Nordic, Hotel Concordia and Good Morning Hotel, which are good if you come by car, are the hotels in Lund that collaborate with us and openly show that they like our work to increase tourism to Lund. Källby camping
The camping site at Källby , located in southern Lund, is normally open from mid-June to mid-August. The camping has room for 20 caravans or mobile homes and 25 tents. You can stay for seven days, and as a guest you can use the open-air pool located next to the camping. Restaurants in Lund
There are a lot of good restaurants in the small medieval city centre of Lund. The university with its 47 000 students and 8 800 employees likely contributes to the demand. That also implies that you need to reserve a table in advance, at least weekends during semesters. If you want to eat at a special restaurant, it’s recommended to book other days as well.
You will easily find most restaurants and cafes in Google Maps. If you have specific questions, you can contact us and describe what you are looking for, and we can give some suggestions. If booking a greet, the greeter also can give tips about restaurants. Smoking at restaurants in Sweden is forbidden by law
Please note that smoking is forbidden at restaurants in Sweden by law, both indoor and outdoor. Smoking has decreased a lot in Sweden the last years and today only about 5% of the citizens in Sweden are smoking.

There is a large selection of small shops with different specialisations for those who like shopping.
