The Lund Cathedral
about one hour The construction of the Lund Cathedral began in 1081, initiated by the danish king Canute the Holy. The first part was the crypt, and the main altar was inaugurated the 30th of June 1123. So, the Cathedral will tun 900 years old in 2023! The whole Cathedral was inaugurated the 1 September 1145. Today, the cathedral is the most visited church in Sweden, about 700 000 visitors per year experience the magnificent old building.
The colour, which looks like dirt, stem from the sandstone containing iron. The iron in the stone oxidise, i.e., rust. So, the Cathedral is not being dirty from air pollutions, as you can hear sometimes.
