Comedy and parodies have a long tradition in Lund, mainly thanks to Lund University and all
the students. Not least all the different student spex (burlesque theater) performed in Lund
every year, and the Lund Carnival every four years have functioned as a nursery for many of
Sweden's most well-known humorists. Here we tell about how you as a visitor can experience the
humor city of Lund. You can also read about the visitor's guides we offer for those who want to know more.
Lund’s most amusing attractions
The meridian for the academic quarter, 1 hour and 15 minutes from Greenwich time, is passing
through Lund according to the Uarda Academy.
A way to experience the humor city of Lund is to take a walk passing by some of Lund’s Most amusing attractions. There are humorous
attractions in several places in the center of Lund, most of which have been created and
installed by the Uarda Academy, which is an association consisting of current and former
students at Lund University.
The Uarda Academy was founded in connection with the Uarda student spex 50th anniversary, November 30th, 1958. The founder Sten Broman was a great personality in Lund. Sten Broman was its chairman, or praeses as it is called, until his death 1983. The mission of the Uarda Academy is to "work for the preservation of the Lund spex tradition in combination with innovative productivity". Many well-known Swedish humorists have been part of the Uarda Academy, such as Hans Alfredson, Stellan Sundahl and Johan Wester.
The Lund Carnival
It is almost a must to experience the Lund Carnival, by far the largest event in Lund, organized by the students at Lund University in mid-May every four years. The next time the Lund Carnival is organized will be in 2026, on May 22nd -24th. Usually about 7,000 students are part of the organization, and about 500,000 visitors come to Lund during the three days the event takes place, from Friday to Sunday. It culminates during Saturday's carnival parade, usually attracting more than 200,000 visitors! Our visitors’ guide tell most of what you need to know to plan your visit well in advance of the next carnival.
